Charmsmith jewelry is fabricated using a complex multi-step process commonly referred to as the "lost wax method." First, the model is printed in wax using a specialized high-resolution 3D Printer. It is then put in a container where plaster is poured in and around it. Once the plaster sets, the wax is melted out in a furnace and the remaining plaster becomes the mold. Molten metal is then poured into this mold and, once hardened, the plaster is then broken away. The jewelry is then carefully cleaned and polished to a smooth, glossy finish.
Some interior or recessed detail may be difficult to reach during the polishing process. This may result in slightly lower fidelity or smoothness than exterior detail, or slightly uneven plating. Additionally, the polishing process, though it results in fantastic smoothness and a superior finish, can sometimes dull some finer details, like an inscription on a signet ring.
Our bronze jewelry is made of cast, polished bronze consisting of 10% tin and 90% copper. It has a smooth, glossy finish and a rich golden color. We add a safe, transparent nanocoating to the surface in order to protect your products from tarnishing. However, over time and wear, the bronze will still naturally tarnish. Like all bronze, our products may tarnish or gain a patina over time and may need to be polished. Bronze pendants are paired with gold-plated 20" necklace chains.
Our silver jewelry is made of sterling silver, which means it consists 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. Silver is alloyed with copper in this way to increase its hardness and strength. However, over time and wear, the silver will still naturally tarnish. Like all silver, our products may tarnish or gain a patina over time and may need to be polished. Silver pendants are paired with solid silver 20" necklace chains.
Our gold and rose gold plated jewelry is first cast in brass before going through extensive hand polishing to create a smooth surface texture, which is then plated in the 14 karat gold alloy of your choice. The brass core of gold plated jewelry consists of 15% zinc, 5% tin, and 80% copper. After being cast, the jewelry is then plated with gold to a thickness of a quarter micron. To provide additional protection against wear and tarnishing, a transparent nanocoating is deposited on top of the gold plating. Eventually this nanocoating may rub off with time and wear, and over time your jewelry may tarnish and require polishing. Gold pendants are paired with gold-plated 20" necklace chains.
